Washington state benefits from a vibrant nonprofit community.

According to research by Nonprofit Association of Washington, there are more than 25,000 active charitable in Washington state. The majority of these nonprofits are small, volunteer-led organizations. Only 27% reported paying staff wages in 2021.

There is no such thing as a typical nonprofit. Nonprofits can be all volunteer or can have large staffs with multiple locations. Missions range from adult education to youth services, from animals to arts and culture, and from indigenous people to immigration and refugees. The common bond is a dedication to serve the people of Washington state.
